# create-app

> Create an app within a project

Create an app within a project. The app is created with default `production` and `preview` environments. The caller-defined slug is stable and must be unique within the project.

## Usage

```bash theme={"theme":"kanagawa-wave"}
unkey api apps create-app [flags]
```

## Flags

<ParamField body="--project" type="string" required>Project ID or slug.</ParamField>
<ParamField body="--name" type="string" required>Human-readable name for this app. Use a descriptive name like 'Payments API' to identify its purpose.</ParamField>
<ParamField body="--slug" type="string" required>App slug. Accepts a resource ID or slug format.</ParamField>

## Global Flags

| Flag         | Type   | Description                                                                                   |
| ------------ | ------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `--root-key` | string | Override root key (`$UNKEY_ROOT_KEY`)                                                         |
| `--api-url`  | string | Override API base URL (default: `https://api.unkey.com`)                                      |
| `--config`   | string | Path to config file (default: `~/.unkey/config.toml`)                                         |
| `--output`   | string | Output format. Use `json` for raw JSON                                                        |
| `--body`     | string | Send this JSON string as the request body. You cannot combine it with request-building flags. |

## Examples

```bash theme={"theme":"kanagawa-wave"}
unkey api apps create-app --project=payments --name="Payments API" --slug=payments-api
```
